An Afrocentric Meal for An Afrocentric Valentine’s Day

| February 9, 2012

Wrap up a romantic Valentine’s Day with an intimate affair around candlelight, soft music, flowers and a well-planned, well-cooked meal of rice and beans (waakye) right at home. If you’re too tired to cook alone, have your valentine join you in the kitchen where you can play and cook together. Begin the meal preparation with a quarter glass of your wine accompaniments (below) to begin the night off just right. Share the pleasure of each other’s company and create a magical evening for two. For things to run smoothly and quickly, you may want to consider marinating the chicken and cooking your beans the night before.

Wine Tip: Zinfandel, Petit Sirah, or Beaujolais are good wine accompaniments to a sumptuous meal of marinated chicken. White Zinfandel, despite the trickiness of its name is actually pink in color which makes it a perfect choice for Valentine’s Day. Beaujolais which obviously originates from France sets the perfect tone for romance for those who believe Paris is the capital city of all things romantic. Whichever one you choose, these accompaniments to your meal should make for the special sealing of an already special and romantic day full of love and glowing happiness. Enjoy!
