You Can Stay Positive This Christmas

| December 27, 2011
By Afrikan Goddess (December 9, 2011)Christmas can quickly become a time of desperation and emotional turmoil if you do not learn how to remain positive this time of year. With the commercialization of Christmas, and the need for all to keep up with traditions and run here and there and to do this and that, many find themselves struggling through the hard times even more this time of year. Here are a few ways you can stay positive even when you feel your world collapsing all around you this Christmas season. First, remember that though you feel shaken to your core, you will not fall. That’s the first step!

Stay Focused On What’s Important: Remember why we celebrate Christmas, and everything else should seem so easy. It’s as simple as that. When we allow others to define meanings and events for us, we find ourselves reluctantly being stringed along like puppets. It’s unfortunate that the days when the holidays were all about family and sharing seems to be becoming a thing of the past. Today it’s about greed and big retailers feeding off the weaknesses of consumers. But, you can stay focused if you try. Just remember the true meaning of Christmas and it will trump everything else that drives you crazy during the holidays.

Find something to be Grateful For: From Thanksgiving until the end of the year, most of us do our most reflective thinking. How have we lived? Where did the time go? I am a year closer to my dying day. What have I achieved? All these thoughts and more can either make us panicked, or bring us great joy, but regardless of what our thinking brings us, we must always be thankful for the opportunity to live through another day and another chance. So breathe, and count the many blessings you have encountered throughout the year; for as long as you are still standing, moving, living, there is always something to be thankful for.

Be Assured that Not Everyone Has Lost Their Christmas Spirit: And although, judging from the looks of things as they exist around you, this seems like the far-fetched truth, not everyone has lost their true Christmas spirit. There are still a few out there who are focused on what this time means and why we celebrate it. Go out and see a nativity play to be reminded and to mingle with like-minded people, volunteer at a soup kitchen, or simply make a donation to a worthy cause. It will serve as a good reminder that Christmas is all about remembering, sharing and giving.

Keep Your Mind Body and Spirit in Good Health: Try to stay sane in the midst of all the craziness. If you remember the points above, you will naturally keep your mind, body and spirit all in good health. Being anxious about things you have no control over is not only self-inflicted injury, it is senseless.

Find Joy in Giving Instead of Receiving:  Last but not the least, stay above the fray and focus on the giving part of Christmas instead of the receiving part. It is shown that it is indeed more blessed to give than to receive. Let this quote guide you to finding sanity through the holiday season and don’t forget that Jesus Christ was born on this day for a reason.

Merry Christmas to you and yours from the Afrikan Goddess family!
